About

Welcome to Folklore: Cult • Art • Illustration

Hello, my name is Stephen Harper and I’m a Dark-Folk underground artist, specialising in otherworldly, surreal character based illustrations inspired by myths, movies, pop-culture & horror.

As well as being a published illustrator I’m also the author of the Dark-Poetry book ‘Autumn: The Melancholy & Mental Health’.

“I’m interested in artists who create not to receive attention, but to relieve tension. Stephen Harper is such an artist. His dimly flickering illustrations, the unflinching honesty of his eye and pen. Stephen is of the great tradition of horror. I find catharsis in his work. I commend his mind to yours”. – Bill Oberst Jr (Three From Hell, Lifechanger)

“Stephen’s art is amazing. His illustrations capture an essence with his intelligence and humour shining through everything he creates”. – Maria Olsen (Starry Eyes, The Lords of Salem)

My work has been published for various horror magazines, novels and fanzines, such as; ‘Popcorn Horror’, ‘Appalling Stories: 13 stories of social injustice’, Fresh Catch’, ‘Belly of Provence’ & ‘Dammaged Comics’.
